Phd Thesis Workshop
Október 7-én a Közép-európai Akadémia PhD Thesis Workshopot rendezett, amely a negyedéves doktoranduszoknak biztosított lehetőséget arra, hogy gyakorolják disszertációs kutatásuk megvédését. A workshop egy valódi védési folyamatot szimulált, lehetővé téve jelöltjeink számára, hogy tapasztalatot szerezzenek munkájuk bemutatásában, a kritikákra való reagálásban és a szakértői kérdések kezelésében.A workshop során a PhD-hallgatók prezentációkat tartottak, amelyekben összefoglalták kutatási eredményeiket és kulcsfontosságú hipotéziseiket. Ezután az opponenseik adtak konstruktív visszajelzéseket és kérdéseket tettek fel a kutatásaikkal kapcsolatban. A PhD-hallgatóknak lehetőségükvolt arra, hogy válaszoljanak ezekre a kérdésekre, és bebizonyítsák, hogy képesek megvédeni kutatásukat.A workshop egy nyílt kérdezz-felelek ülésben csúcsosodott ki, ahol a doktorjelöltek válaszoltak a közönség kérdéseire. Ez a tapasztalat segítette felkészíteni doktorjelöltjeinket a 2024/2025-ös tanévben a hivatalos védések során felmerülő kihívásokra.
On 7 October, the Central European Academy hosted a PhD Thesis Workshop, which gave fourth-year doctoral students the opportunity to practice defending their dissertation research. The workshop simulated a real thesis writing process, allowing our candidates to gain experience in presenting their work, responding to critics and dealing with peer reviewers' questions. During the workshop, PhD students gave presentations summarising their research findings and key hypotheses. Their peers then provided constructive feedback and asked questions about their research. The PhD students had the opportunity to answer these questions and demonstrate their ability to defend their research.The workshop culminated in an open Q&A session where the PhD candidates answered questions from the audience. This experience helped to prepare our doctoral candidates for the challenges they will face during the formal examinations in the 2024/2025 academic year.

III CEA Supervisors’ Workshop – Budapest 2024
A Közép-európai Akadémia workshop-sorozata a harmadik rendezvénnyel folytatódott 2024. október 10-én Budapesten. Az év elején Pozsonyban megrendezett sikeres tavaszi workshopot követően ez a rendezvény ismét összehozta a fiatal kutatókat és hallgatókat a tudományágak közötti tudományos vitákat folytatása érdekében. A budapesti workshop platformot biztosított a résztvevők számára, hogy értékes visszajelzéseket kapjanak tapasztalt professzoroktól, továbbfejlesszék kutatási készségeiket és bővítsék szakmai hálózataikat. A nemzetközi együttműködés előmozdítására irányuló folyamatos erőfeszítések részeként ez az esemény egy újabb jelentős lépés volt az intézmények közötti tudományos együttműködés erősítésében.
The Central European Academy workshop series continued with the third event on 10 October 2024 in Budapest. Following the successful spring workshop in Bratislava earlier this year, this event brought together young researchers and students once again to engage in scientific debate across disciplines. The Budapest workshop provided a platform for participants to gain valuable feedback from experienced professors, further develop their research skills and expand their professional networks. As part of the ongoing efforts to promote international cooperation, this event was another significant step in strengthening scientific collaboration between institutions.

EU Enlargement and Successful Integration: Lessons Learned
2024 őszétől a Közép-európai Akadémia Professzori Hálózata 8 új kutatócsoportot indított el. Ezek a csoportok közül a „Sikeres uniós bővítés” csoport konferenciája volt az első „EU Enlargement and Successful Integration: Lessons Learned” címmel. Az első konferencia visszatekintés volt, az egyes országok egyéni tapasztalataira koncentrálva. Az első kutatási szakaszban a hálózat legtöbb tagja az országjelentésekre koncentrált. Ez a konferencia ezt a szakaszt zárta le. Célja volt, hogy tájékoztatást adjon az egyes országok csatlakozási folyamatának konkrét tapasztalatairól és kérdéseiről, amelyeket ki kell emelni, és amelyek jelentősek az integrációs folyamatokra.
From autumn 2024, the Central European Academy Professors' Network has launched 8 new research groups. The first of these groups was the conference of the "Successful EU Enlargement" group, entitled "EU Enlargement and Successful Integration: Lessons Learned". The first conference was a retrospective, focusing on individual country experiences. In the first research phase, most members of the network focused on country reports. This conference concluded this phase. Its aim was to provide information on specific experiences and issues in the accession process of each country that should be highlighted and that are relevant to the integration process.

Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe in General Terms
Az „Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe in General Terms” című konferencia az Európai Unió (EU) előtt álló egyik legégetőbb kérdéssel foglalkozott: hogyan lehet egyensúlyt teremteni az integráció és a tagállamok közötti egyenlőség elve között. Az EU folyamatos fejlődése során a kihívás abban rejlik, hogy a szorosabb együttműködés elősegítése mellett minden tagállamot – méretétől, vagyonától vagy történelmi kontextusától függetlenül – egyenlő bánásmódban részesítsen. A kezdeményezés mögött álló kutatócsoport célja volt, hogy feltárja azt, hogy ez az egyensúly megvalósítható-e, különösen az EU kormányzási módszereiről – akár kormányközi, akár nemzetek feletti – és jelenlegi működési struktúrájának megfelelőségéről szóló egyre növekvő viták fényében. A konferencia megvizsgálta az EU alapító szerződéseiben megfogalmazott, az egyenlőség iránti elkötelezettségét, például a szubszidiaritás elvét, amely szerint a döntéseket a lehető legközelebb kell hozni a polgárokhoz. A konferencia azt is megvizsgálta, hogy az egyenlőség hogyan nyilvánul meg olyan területeken, mint az emberi jogok, az igazságügyi együttműködés, a külpolitika és az új technológiák, például a mesterséges intelligencia szabályozása. Az előadások számos kérdést vizsgáltak, az állami szuverenitástól és annak a nemzetközi jogra gyakorolt hatásától kezdve az egyenlőség és a demokratikus legitimitás összefonódásának módjáig az uniós együttműködésben. A konferencia magas szintű szakértők részvételével elősegítette az egyenlőség többdimenziós megértését az EU-ban. Megvizsgálta a jelenlegi rendszer lehetséges hiányosságait, különösen a tagállamok egyenlősége és az EU mint globális szereplő hatékonysága közötti egyensúlyt illetően. A cél volt, hogy előmozdítsa a vitát arról, hogyan lehet fenntartani a szolidaritást és a nemzeti sokszínűség tiszteletben tartását, miközben az elkövetkező években fokozódik az európai integráció.
The conference "Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe in General Terms" addressed one of the most pressing issues facing the European Union (EU): how to balance integration with the principle of equality between Member States. As the EU continues to evolve, the challenge is to treat all Member States equally, regardless of their size, wealth or historical context, while promoting closer cooperation. The research team behind this initiative aimed to explore whether this balance is achievable, particularly in the light of the growing debate about the EU's governance methods - whether intergovernmental or supranational - and the adequacy of its current operational structure. The conference looked at the EU's commitment to equality as enshrined in its founding treaties, such as the principle of subsidiarity, which requires decisions to be taken as close as possible to citizens. It also looked at how equality manifests itself in areas such as human rights, judicial cooperation, foreign policy and the regulation of new technologies such as artificial intelligence. The presentations explored a range of issues, from state sovereignty and its impact on international law to the way equality and democratic legitimacy intertwine in EU cooperation. The conference brought together high-level experts to promote a multidimensional understanding of equality in the EU. It examined the possible shortcomings of the current system, in particular in terms of the balance between equality between Member States and the effectiveness of the EU as a global actor. The aim was to foster debate on how to maintain solidarity and respect for national diversity as European integration intensifies in the coming years.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) and best interests of the child - General issues
A Közép-európai Professzori Hálózat keretein belül a humán reprodukciós technológiákkal (ART) kapcsolatos kutatásokat végző nemzetközi tudóscsoport egy tudományos konferencia keretében mutatta be munkájuk első eredményeit. A tudósok előadásaikban a humán reprodukciós technológiák alkalmazásának különböző axiológiai, orvosi és mindenekelőtt jogi vonatkozásait vitatták meg. Az előadások bemutatták mind az ART nemzetközi és nemzeti jogi alapjait, mind a vele kapcsolatos problémákat. A Közép-európai Akadémia által 2024. november 28-án Budapesten megrendezett nemzetközi tudományos konferencia is lehetőséget adott a tudományos vitára, amelynek során a nemzetközi emberi jogi és a közép-európai országok jogának állása is bemutatásra került. Az előadók javaslatokat és további kutatásokat igénylő területeket is megjelöltek.
An international team of scientists working in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) in the framework of the Central European Professors' Network presented the first results of their work at a scientific conference. In their presentations, the scientists discussed various axiological, medical and, above all, legal aspects of the use of human reproductive technologies. The presentations covered both the international and national legal basis of ART and the problems associated with it. The international scientific conference organised by the Central European Academy in Budapest on 28 November 2024 also provided an opportunity for scientific debate, presenting the state of international human rights law and the law of Central European countries. The speakers also identified areas for suggestions and further research.

Gyermekjogi Napok 3.
2024 a 35. évfordulója az ENSZ Gyermekjogi Egyezménye (a továbbiakban: UNCRC) elfogadásának, valamint a 100. évfordulója a Genfi Nyilatkozatnak, amely a gyermek jogairól szóló legelső nemzetközi szintű dokumentum volt.
A Gyermekjogi Napok III (a továbbiakban: CRD III), a harmadik éves nemzetközi gyermekjogi konferencia. A rendezvény célja volt, hogy mindkét évfordulót megünnepelje öt olyan könyv bemutatásával, amelyek a Nemzetközi és Összehasonlító Gyermekjogi LLM program (a továbbiakban: ICCR LLM) első félévének tananyagául szolgálnak. ICCR LLM a legelső olyan LLM program Közép-Európában, amely interdiszciplináris és komplex ismereteket nyújt mind a nemzetközi gyermekjogokról, mind pedig a gyermek különböző jogágakban megvalósuló jogairól összehasonlító jogi szempontból. Ez az öt könyv a következő: International Children’s Rights, Children’s Rights in Regional Human Rights Systems, Social and Personality Development in Childhood, The Rights of the Child in Private Law – Central European Comparative Perspective, The Rights of the Child in Public Law – Central European Comparative Perspective.
Az LLM program és a tananyag részletes bemutatásán kívül a CRD III témája a gyermekek mentális egészsége. Az előző évek programjához hasonlóan egy közép-európai ország, Szlovákia került reflektorfénybe, amelyen keresztül bemutatásra került, hogyan lehet a gyermekek mentális egészségének problémáját felismerni és hosszú távon javítani. A szlovákiai legjobb gyakorlatok bemutatása mellett, a digitális technológiák és azok lehetséges hatása a gyermekek mentális egészségére is napirenden volt.
A korábbi évek hagyományaihoz híven, a CRD III. konferenciát a gyermekektől gyűjtött műalkotásokból rendezett kiállítás kísérte.

The year of 2024 is the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (hereinafter referred to as UNCRC) as well as the 100th anniversary of the Geneva Declaration which was the very first document on an international level concerning the rights of the child.
Children's Rights Days III (hereafter CRD III), the third annual international conference on children's rights. The aim of the event was to celebrate both anniversaries by presenting five books that serve as the first semester course material for the International and Comparative Child Law LLM programme (hereafter: ICCR LLM). ICCR LLM is the first LLM programme in Central Europe to provide interdisciplinary and complex knowledge of both international children's rights and children's rights in different branches of law from a comparative legal perspective. These five books are International Children's Rights, Children's Rights in Regional Human Rights Systems, Social and Personality Development in Childhood, The Rights of the Child in Private Law - Central European Comparative Perspective, The Rights of the Child in Public Law - Central European Comparative Perspective.
In addition to a detailed presentation of the LLM programme and curriculum, CRD III will focus on children's mental health. As in previous years, a Central European country, Slovakia, was spotlighted to illustrate how children's mental health problems can be identified and improved in the long term. In addition to presenting best practices in Slovakia, digital technologies and their potential impact on children's mental health were also on the agenda.
In keeping with the tradition of previous years, the CRD III conference was accompanied by an exhibition of artworks collected from children.

I Polish-Hungarian Scientific Forum (I PHSF)
Az I. Lengyel-Magyar Tudományos Fórum a lengyel és a magyar kutatók közötti, kulcsfontosságú jogi kérdésekre összpontosító, együttműködésen alapuló párbeszédet indított. A rendezvény a “Polish-Hungarian Research Platform” része volt, ami a két ország közös kihívásaival foglalkozó 5 kutatócsoport előzetes eredményeit mutatta be.
A témák között szerepelt a “Fordított jogállamiság” Lengyelországban, ahol a lengyel jogrendszer közelmúltbeli változásainak első elemzése került bemutatásra, amely a kormányzás és a jogállamiság terén bekövetkezett változásokat vizsgálta. Egy másik kulcsfontosságú téma a „Változó külügyi szolgálati viszonyok”, amely áttekintést nyújtott a külügyi szolgálatok változó szerepéről a globális kihívások fényében. A fórum a gyermekjóléttel és a modern technológiákkal is foglalkozott. Az új technológiáknak a gyermekek jogainak védelmében játszott szerepére összpontosított, ugyanakkor rávilágított a lehetséges kockázatokra is. Az előadások között szerepelt az “Idős emberek társadalmi kirekesztése” című témakör, amely azt vizsgálta, hogy a jogi keretek hogyan enyhíthetik az idősek társadalmi elszigeteltségét. Végül a transznacionális migrációs bűnözés kérdését tárgyalták, bemutatva a migrációhoz kapcsolódó bűnözéssel kapcsolatos első megállapításokat, valamint az ilyen kihívások kezelésére szolgáló lehetséges jogi és társadalmi stratégiákat.
A rendezvény bevezetésként szolgált az említett kutatási területekbe, megalapozva a későbbi találkozókon folytatandó részletesebb vitákat és elemzéseket.
The I Polish-Hungarian Scientific Forum launched a collaborative dialogue between Polish and Hungarian academics focusing on key legal issues. The event was part of the "Polish-Hungarian Research Platform", which presented the preliminary results of 5 research groups working on common challenges facing the two countries.
Among the topics was "Reversed Rule of Law" in Poland, where a first analysis of recent changes in the Polish legal system was presented, looking at changes in governance and the rule of law. Another key theme was "Changing Foreign Service Relations", which provided an overview of the changing role of the foreign service in the light of global challenges. The Forum also addressed child welfare and modern technologies. It focused on the role of new technologies in protecting children's rights, but also highlighted the potential risks. Presentations included a session on "Social exclusion of older people", which looked at how legal frameworks can alleviate the social isolation of older people. Finally, the issue of transnational migrant crime was discussed, presenting initial findings on migration-related crime and possible legal and social strategies to address such challenges.
The event served as an introduction to these areas of research, laying the groundwork for more detailed discussions and analyses at subsequent meetings.

Dr. Katarzyna Zombory, a Professzori Hálózat 2023-as Közös Védelempolitika kutatócsoportjának vezetője, 2024. szeptember 6-án „Pro Facultate Iurisprudentiae” díjat kapott a Miskolci Egyetemtől a jogi kar nemzetközi kapcsolatainak ápolásához való hozzájárulása elismeréseként; valamint a „Miskolci Egyetem Kiváló Tudományos Szerzője 2023” jogtudományi területen végzett tudományos publikációs tevékenységéért.
Prof. Dr. Dudás Attila, az Újvidéki Egyetem professzora és a Miskolci Egyetem Állam- és Jogtudományi Kar, Deák Ferenc Állam- és Jogtudományi Doktori Iskola (CECL) programjának doktoranduszainak témavezetője 2024. szeptember 6-án „Signum Aurerum Facultatis” kitüntetésben részesült a CECL programhoz és a Miskolci Egyetem Állam- és Jogtudományi Karának nemzetközi kapcsolataihoz való hozzájárulásáért.
The Central European Academy warmly congratulates one of the leaders of the Academy's Professorial Network and one of the Theme Leaders of the Junior Programme on the awards presented by the University of Miskolc.
On 6 September 2024, Dr. Katarzyna Zombory, the leader of the 2023 Professors’ Network research group on Common defence policy, received from the University of Miskolc a Pro Facultate Iurisprudentiae award in recognition of her contribution to fostering the international relations of the Faculty of Law; as well as an award for her scientific publication activity in the field of law (Miskolci Egyetem Kiváló Tudományos Szerzője 2023).
Prof. Dr. Attila Dudás, full professor at the University of Novi Sad and thesis supervisor of Ph.D. students at the Central European Comparative Law (CECL) program of the Deak Ferenc Doctoral School of the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc, has received on 6 September 2024 an award Signum Aurerum Facultatis for his contribution to the CECL programme and the international relationships of the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc.

Megnyílt a ,,Reziliancia - mi segít, hogy jobban érezd magad, ha túlterhelt vagy?” című kiállítás
Amikor elindítottuk a Gyermekjogi Napok hagyományát, mély meggyőződésünk volt, hogy nincs vita a gyermekek jogairól anélkül, hogy valóban meghallgatnánk őket.
A Gyermekjogi Napok kiállításainak célja, hogy reflektorfénybe állítsák a gyermekek hangját, és ne csak az agyunkat, hanem a szívünket is megmozgassák. A kiállítás témáját minden évben a tudományos konferencia témájához illeszkedően választjuk ki.
Idén a gyermekek mentális egészségére fókuszálunk, így a kiállítás középpontjában is a „Rugalmasság – mi segít, hogy jobban érezd magad, ha túlterhelt vagy” című kiállítás áll. December 2-tól már megtekinthető mindenki számára az Aranybástya étterem falain.
Arra biztatjuk Önöket, hogy szánjanak időt a kiállítás megtekintésére, hogy a gyermekek jogairól folytatott nagyon fontos tudományos vita ne veszítse el valódi célját, és mindannyian tisztább „gyermekjogi szemüveggel” térhessünk haza.
A kiállítás első látógatói maguk az alkotó gyermekek voltak, akik egy bögre forró csoki szürcsölése közben csodálhatták meg a saját és más alkotótársuk rajzait.

When we started the tradition of Children’s Rights Days we were deeply convinced that there is no discussion on the rights of children without genuinely listening to them.
Exhibitions of Children’s Rights Days aim to put the spotlight on the voices of children and engage not only our brains but our hearts. Each year we select the theme of the exhibition that suits the topic of the scientific conference.
This year our focus is on the mental health of children, so is the focus of the exhibition, titled ’Resiliency – what helps you feel better when you are overwhelmed?’ .. From 2 December it will be open to the public on the walls of the Aranybástya restaurant.
We encourage you to take the time and visit the exhibition so the very important scientific discussion conducted on the rights of children does not lose its real aim and we can all go home with clearer ’glasses of children’s rights’.
The first visitors to the exhibition were the children themselves, who were able to admire their own and other children's drawings while sipping a mug of hot chocolate.

A CEA professzorai Lengyel Bírósági Szakértők Társaságától Érdemérmet vehettek át Varsóban
2024. december 11-én Szilágyi János Ede professzor, a CEA stratégiai igazgatója és Dr. Katarzyna Zombory, a CEA kutatási igazgatója Varsóban a Lengyel Bírósági Szakértők Társaságától Érdemérmet (Medal „Zasłużony dla Polskiego Towarzystwa Ekspertów i Biegłych Sądowych”) kapott a Lengyel Bírósági Szakértők Társaságától az összehasonlító jogi kutatáshoz és a nemzetközi tudományos együttműködéshez való hozzájárulásuk elismeréseként.
On 11 December 2024, Professor János Ede Szilágyi, the Strategy Director of the CEA, and Dr Katarzyna Zombory, the Research Director of the CEA, received in Warsaw a Merit Medal (Medal "Zasłużony dla Polskiego Towarzystwa Ekspertów i Biegłych Sądowych") from the Polish Society of the Court Experts, in recognition for their contribution to comparative legal research and international scientific cooperation.
